Winter Recreational Hockey (Metro League)

2017/18 Winter Season Information.

Winter Metro League is a recreational ice hockey program for boys and girls who are under the age of 15 as of December 31, 2017. All skill levels are welcome!  Players play three hours per week with one (1) hour of instructional clinic, one hour (1) of practice with your team, and one (1) hour of league games.  Instructional clinics are held during a weeknight (typically Mondays or Fridays) and practice and games are on the weekends. Metro teams compete against each other in a fun, developmental, yet competitive environment. Our coaches support the USA Hockey’s American Development Model (ADM).
After you register for the Winter Metro League, the first step is to be evaluated.  The league will hold two days of Metro Evaluations on September 9th & 10th, 2017 for all recreational players (except those registered in the Mini & Mite Divisions). Each player will report to the appropriate evaluation time where coaches will watch the players skate and scrimmage.  It is important to attend both days.  Coaches will be evaluating the players and forming teams based on skill level.  Every effort is made to form teams of even skill for parity to start the season.  Evaluation Schedule will be posted soon on the Jr. Winterhawks Calendar.

Once evaluations are completed and teams are formed, you will receive a call from the coach of your team and an invitation to join the specific Bonzi team page, where communications and schedule information will be posted during the season.  You will then report to your first ice time as listed on the schedule and begin practicing.

The 8U groups of Mini-Mites & Mites will begin their season on October 7th, 2017.  Coaches will be evaluating this group of players during the first weekend of their season to ensure proper placement by skill level, which may vary from birth year assignments at time of registration.  You will be notified by phone no later than October 10th if your player is moved to the other group, & fees will be adjusted accordingly.
Age Divisions by Birth Year:

  • Mini-Mite (7U): 2010 & under
  • Mite (8U): 2009 & 2010
  • Squirt (10U): 2007 & 2008
  • Peewee (12U): 2005 & 2006
  • Bantam (14U): 2003 & 2004

*REMEMBER:  Evaluations for Winter Metro  League are September 9th & 10th, 2017  at the Winterhawks Skating Center (times posted on the schedule tab).  Please attend BOTH days. There are NO formal evaluations for our 8U players!  Both Mini-Mites & Mites will report to their first scheduled ice time as assigned on October 7th. First year Mites new to hockey may be re-assigned to the Mini-Mite Division to provide more opportunity for basic skill development and confidence.

**Players who will be enrolled in High School beginning Fall 2017 will be evaluated separately the weekend of September 16th & 17th, 2017.  Please see the section on our Winterhawks Varsity Hockey League for more information.
